Greg Barker, Energy Minister, claimed that for many people Solar Panels might be better than investing the same money in a pension. With annuity rates at an historic low, and the cost of installing a solar PV system also dropping, the income (and cost reduction to your electricity bill) from generating your own energy might well give a better return.
The solar PV feed in tariffs are guaranteed for 20 years, and a well situated solar PV system could well generate a higher return than an annuity, especially for people retiring in their 50s and early 60s.
